Some basics:
- Japanese language helps but is not required. It doesn't hurt to learn some basic phrases.
- this (Mongering) is semi legal in Japan but people are not explicit(crude), do not attempt to be explicit.
- prices(for their time) are not negotiable but extras are. Carry cash and understand the listed price is the base price that you pay.
- streetwalkers are illegal; they exist but are dangerous if you don't know Japanese and you may get get robbed or worse on your own,
Safety:
- never follow a tout or anyone from the street that invites you in somewhere
- do not go to unknown bars with people you just met for a drink. You will get drugged and wake up poorer.
- the police will not side with you on anything as you are a foreigner.
- STDs(STI, UTI) are a thing here. Wrap or not wrap is your call but many STDs are permanent.
