Gaijin Hunters
This question gets asked a lot, generally with the assumption that you go to random bar, Japanese woman picks you up or you pick her up, you do stuff and then leave this does happen, but like it so much rarer in Tokyo than people think. Understand that there are many normal tourists here that goes to said places and also get picked up, not to mention ALTs (assistant language teachers) etc that live here that frequent these sorts of places. there are some chains that are known for hosting such things, generally prior to pandemic though, the British Pub shops called "HUB". They're around, but now days are a shadow of their former self and most have none present now. The easiest way to meet these sorts of people are often at local izakaya these days, and this will depend on where you are staying and knowing which izakaya attract this kind of talent. Girls bars, snacks, cabaret places, are NOT full of gaijin hunters, there you are simply another mark, so they'll be as friendly as possible but they do expect to get paid. you can use these places for Sugar Dating (Papakatsu) outside of Tokyo / Osaka / Major city rules are very different as there are much fewer foreigners.
If you're in Tokyo / Osaka / Major city, some tips to possibly find a place.
- you want a bar open past last train, ideally 21:00 to 5:00.
- somewhere with an established base.
- if bar has a site, check instagram and see if they have photos of customers etc.
- show up and maybe catch something.
Free advice:
- this is a great way to get stuck with child support. Japan does not have shared custody, and depending on your country may pursue you for the cost
- do not go to another bar to drink from the first one with someone, this is a great way to get robbed, and in Tokyo (at least) drugging foreigners is one crime that is often ignored
Sus time's Corner
I think outside of residents of Japan, gaijin hunters aren't looking for short term visitors.
Japanese men can be very selective in their future wives. Though this is changing women want not to work and become mothers, or homemakers. Often women cannot dream of being paid the same as their male counterparts. Because the idea is that they are not worth the time or investment as they may become mothers and quit. There's a saying here that nobody wants a Christmas cake (that's a thing here) after Christmas. Meaning women over 25 years old are generally considered old maids and too old to be wives. They've hit their peak. So options are fewer for women over 25.
In addition there are some Japanese women with personality types that don't fit well here or they have experience living outside of Japan. Like it or not marrying a foreigner is seen as a way to escape the working world and even as a way to have a child later in life. And yes of course there are women who prefer foreigners. I know of many happy marriages in the 10+ year range from one now defunct gaijin hunter bar.
I am not saying that gaijin hunters are bad, but just be careful around them. Relationships can be a bit more like business negotiations than you're used to. Friend of mine was being asked how many kids he wants, how much he makes, and if she can start calling him a boyfriend via text 2 hours after their first date.
