This question gets asked a lot, generally with the assumption that you go to random bar, Japanese woman picks you up or you pick her up, you do stuff and then leave this does happen, but like it so much rarer in Tokyo than people think. Japanese men can be very selective in their future wives. Though this is changing women want not to work and become mothers, or homemakers. Often women cannot dream of being paid the same as their male counterparts. Because the idea is that they are not worth the time or investment as they may become mothers and quit. There's a saying here that nobody wants a christmas cake (that's a thing here) after Christmas. Meaning women over 25 years old are generally considered old maids and too old to be wives. They've hit their peak. So options are fewer for women over 25. | |||
In addition there are some Japanese women with personality types that don't fit well here or they have experience living outside of Japan. Like it or not marrying a foreigner is seen as a way to escape the working world and even as a way to have a child later in life. And yes of course there are women who prefer foreigners. I am not saying that gaijin hunters are bad, but just be careful around them. Relationships can be a bit more like business negotiations than you're used to. Friend of mine was being asked how many kids he wants, how much he makes, and if she can start calling him a boyfriend via text 2 hours after their first date. | |||
