Love Hotels:

these are hotels that you pay by the hour for.
most you cannot book online but couples.jp has a decent map of where they are
booking is automated via a computer screen so you don’t need to know Japanese to use (meaning when you walk in there is a screen and you select from it)
if you are doing outcall you usually can tell the person a metro station and then give them the exact hotel you book about 15 minutes before with room

8 the hotels don’t check who comes in or out, as long as you pay

during busy times things might fill up if you are in some obscure station so try and go off hours if you are in middle of nowhere
many places on their site will have a list of preferred hotels and you may even get a discount if you use one of them
in a pinch they’re also good to crash in if you drink too much at cabaret club and don’t want to go home hungover
the APA business hotels are not love hotels and often do check guests so do not use them.

Privacy is the main part of love hotels.
You are sometimes locked in to the room and pay using a pneumatic tube, or you pay at a machine in the lobby as you exit.
Rarely will you have to speak to anyone. Much of the experience is touch screens or even buttons.
My suggestion is wait downstairs usually there are private booths setup that you can wait in for your girl to arrive. And go up together.
Rate Types: honestly the rate system is complex, but prices can be from around 5,000 yen - 10,000+ yen.
- Break/Rest: a short stay during the day. A quickie
- Stay: usually an over night. for longer sessions and if you stay overnight.

Types

There are several types of love hotels.

- walk up: the big cities have these usually with a private entry way. Pictures of the rooms and prices for different lengths of stay.
- drive in: where there are individual units with a room above the parking space.

Facilities

Often there will be a menu, costumes, sex toys, lingerie, food and drinks. Some places offer a free welcome drink. Ordering is done via the TV in Japanese. Of course if you're waiting inside the room you can turn on porn if you want. There is usually free wifi available. Some of the items are free rentals others you are paying for.

The Rooms

No windows, very bright colors, some have themes, there are S and M themed rooms and equipment. A few have train themed rooms for chikan play. You will likely take a bath/shower with your provider and brushing your teeth. this is standard fare for every delivery I've done even if I showered in the room right before.

A few years ago they facilities usually did not permit same sex couples, some still do. But this is not common anymore. But for some reason never have issues with trans women, in my experience.
